Why Is My Lesson Locked?

Updated Oct 19, 2021

There are five primary reasons why lessons may be locked in your SI Cloud course. Click on the lock icon to the right of any locked lesson to show a tooltip explaining why that specific lesson is locked. More information on each possible reason is included in the sections below.

Click on the lock icon to see why any individual lesson is locked

Reason 1: You have not purchased or activated your course's lab kit.

If the "Enter a Code" and "Purchase Kit" buttons appear on the top right-hand corner of the window, that means the lab kit for the course has either not been purchased or the kit code has not been entered. See our guides here for help ordering or activating your lab kits.

Reason 2: You have not finished the course's prerequisite lessons.

All courses include two or three prerequisite courses that introduce you to using the Cloud system to complete your lessons. If these lessons are not completed, the rest of your lessons will not unlock.

Complete all lessons listed under "Prerequisites" at the top of your lesson list to proceed.

Reason 3: You have not finished previous lessons.

Lessons usually have to be completed in order. If you haven't finished all previous lessons a course, you won't be able to move to the next one. Make sure you have completed all the lessons above the lesson you're trying to access.

The lesson  in the example below is locked because previous lessons have not been completed, and is ready to unlock as soon as its prerequisites are met.

Reason 4: Your instructor has set access dates for the lessons.

Your instructor can set lessons to unlock on specific dates. If this is the case, clicking on the lock icon will show a message with the date it will unlock. If a lesson is supposed to unlock on a certain day, you won't be able to access it until that date.

This only applies to students who access their course through their school's Learning Management System (LMS).

If you see this error message, make sure you are accessing the lesson through your LMS. This ensures that your grades are recorded correctly for your instructor and you get credit for your work!

If you aren't sure whether you should be accessing your lessons through an LMS or not, your instructor should be able to give you guidance.
